UNICEF is working to strengthen the health system of the Czech Republic to improve the capacity for provision of health services to refugee children and their caregivers and has established and scaled up the health and nutrition programme emergency response at national and municipal level. Our main interventions are:

Increase access to primary healthcare services by strengthening the health system of the Czech Republic to improve the capacity for provision of health services to refugee children and their caregivers
Integration of Ukrainian health professionals by helping Ukrainian health care professionals to obtain accreditation and support their integration in the Czech health system
Prevention of vaccine preventable outbreaks and other infectious diseases
Community health promotion programmes
Capacity building of Czech healthcare providers by supporting the capacity building of Czech health care providers through trainings on culturally sensitive communication skills for provision of healthcare, in partnership with National Institute for Postgraduate Medical Education.

How can you make a difference?

The Health Officer will report to the Health and Nutrition Specialist. UNICEF support in Czech Republic is contributing to strengthening existing health systems to improve the capacity for provision of health services to refugee children and their caregivers and to all vulnerable groups. UNICEF and the Ministry of Health developed and endorsed a joint workplan responding to the needs and main gaps identified. The Health Officer will provide professional technical, operational and administrative assistance throughout the programming process for the Health Programme within the Refugee Response Plan from development planning to delivery of results, by preparing, executing, managing, and implementing a variety of technical and administrative programme tasks to facilitate programme development, implementation, programme progress monitoring, and evaluating and reporting of results.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have:

A university degree in one of the following fields: public health/nutrition, pediatric health, family health, health research, global/international health, health policy and/or management, environmental health sciences, biostatistics, socio-medical, health education, epidemiology, or another relevant technical field.
A minimum of two years of professional experience in one or more of the following areas: public health/nutrition planning and management, maternal and neonatal health care, or health emergency/humanitarian preparedness.
Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.
Fluency in English and Czech is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset

UNICEF appointments are subject to medical clearance.  Issuance of a visa by the host country of the duty station, which will be facilitated by UNICEF, is required for IP positions. Appointments are also subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid). Government employees that are considered for employment with UNICEF are normally required to resign from their government before taking up an assignment with UNICEF. UNICEF reserves the right to withdraw an offer of appointment, without compensation, if a visa or medical clearance is not obtained, or necessary inoculation requirements are not met, within a reasonable period for any reason.
